Babi Yar Park

I've driven past this park several times and had no idea it was a park in memoriam of Holocaust victims. It doesn't have a playground and is not really set up to play sports or anything. It has walking areas that go to these big rocks that have scriptures and information. It does have a trail running through it. The walking path that is setup is in the shape of the Jewish Star of David, and you can see the outline if you look at the map of Babi Yar Park

Babi Yar is a ravine in the city of Kiev in Russia, where the Nazi's massacred approximately 34,000 Jews to start, and then made a permanent camp in Kiev where, according to the memorial at the park, nearly two hundred thousand people were murdered.

Even though this isn't a park with a playground and a circular running path like I usually like, I think everyone should come here at least once. There's even a recording on one of the rocks, where you can push for information, and it says that the park is for "quiet contemplation." It was unexpected what we learned today.

"In Memoriam to the two hundred thousand victims who died in Babi Yar, Kiev, Ukraine, USSR, September 29, 1941 - November 6, 1943. The majority Jews with Ukranians and others."

"Below this marker is located a capsule containing earth from Babi Yar Ravine, Kiev, Ukraine, U.S.S.R. presented to the Babi Yar Park Foundation by Colorado Senator John R. Bermingham."
